Cryotheraphy and Me

As a lady in her late fifties, I’m probably not the most obvious cryotherapy devotee, but I am and let me tell you why.

At the age of forty I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RH), not the “old person illness”, but rather a chronic autoimmune condition.  It can be quite debilitating, however; I have made the illness something I rule –– I do not let it rule me.  As a consequence of this, I am continuously searching for anything which can help make my life easier and more fulfilling.

I am lucky(!) enough that my RH is severe enough to receive the best biological medications, but it is still down to me to ensure I feel as well as I possibly can — enter Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) and LondonCryo.

Whole Body Cryotherapy was developed in 1978 by a Japanese doctor as a treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis.  If you are unfamiliar with WBC, it is very simple, fast and effective. After changing into a robe and putting on a pair of thermal socks and gloves you step into a chamber (the “CryoCabin”) which will chill your body down to -140 (yes, -140) degrees. It only takes three minutes of your time, but it makes you feel alive like never before! I have even been told its like having a hit of cocaine, but not ever having tried cocaine, I cannot testify to that fact.

After finding all this information out about cryotherapy, I wanted to try it, but no one seemed to be offering it outside the football clubs. I was getting frustrated trying to discover the truth for myself.  Maria changed all that by opening LondonCryo in the city of London and making it possible for me to access this treatment. I cannot even start to explain the difference it has made to my life.

At the time of starting cryotherapy around a year ago, I was also suffering from a condition called “Fibromyalgia” which causes pain all over the body (Lady Gaga also suffers from it).   After a few months of WBC treatment, the Fibromyalgia has almost disappeared and my Rheumatoid Arthritis has improved to such a degree that my life has taken new dimensions both in my physical and mental health.

I cannot even start to tell you how amazing and life changing this very simple and fast treatment is.  Admittedly, sometimes I arrive and the thought of getting undressed and freezing is the very last thing I am wanting to do; but after my magic three minutes the world is a different place and I am truly buzzing. In fact, my husband and friends call me the Duracell bunny; I am so upbeat and life becomes 50% faster.

So thank you Maria and your team at LondonCryo, I can honestly say that you have changed my life!  Cryotherapy has been as important for me as my knee replacements and back fusion because without any of these my life would only be lived at 50% of the capacity it is at the present — and I don’t ever want to return to half a life.
